About Us

In the days of the Old West, the cowboys would gather 'round the campfire at the end of a hard day's work to tell stories and enjoy each other's friendship.

That's how Jim Shelburne and Penn Cummings felt in 1972 when they built their first outdoor firepit for Jim's cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Family and friends loved the warm glow of a fire during the cool evenings.

The first model was crafted from a part taken off a farm implement (a disc blade) and was a little crude, but it got the job done! Their business, the Schmeiser Co., has produced farm implements since 1929. High quality workmanship by professional welders and only the best materials result in a product unmatched by others. Today, after 40 years of improvements to the original design, the California Firepit by T.G. Schmeiser is the finest portable outdoor fireplace available.

Now, you can enjoy the warm glow of an Old West campfire in your own backyard. Use real wood for your favorite BBQ dinner, then remove the grill, stoke up the fire and enjoy roasting marshmallows with friends and family!
